Track Report by Sue Maltby

Trackside from Kyneton Car Club at Bryant Park Hill Climb Sunday 22nd September, 2013

Well, what a weekend, what a day it was.  Firstly, congratulations once again to Lyndsay Paech who arranged the event for us.  Thanks Lyndsay.  Also, huge thanks to our club legends - Peter Dinwoodie, Don Smith, Brian Worsey, Sue and Steve Maltby who helped on and around the track.  Barry Crosbie who had the truck on stand by and thankfully was not required at all - which is great.  Miranda for offering to be our Medical Officer of which I don't believe she was called on throughout the day.  Thanks also to Gippsland Car Club for the running of the event. For those of us that stayed the weekend and went out for a meal at the Moe Racing Club - What a night - 35 people gathered and ate together it was almost like another Presentation night.  Well done it was a great get together.  Mark Franzo and Ian Burton stayed in Morwell and  ended up playing poker at a Morwell pub and had a great time as well.  Peter and Lyn Dinwoodie, Lyndsay and Miranda Paech and Jeffrey Haire spend their night at the local pub walking distance from their accommodation.  All in all everyone enjoyed Moe and surrounds.    It was a wet, dry event but very successful.  On to the event..............

Class A - 3 entrants - 1st Geoff Parker in his new wheels the Honda Civic.  Boy those stickers look good Geoff great advertising for the Club.  Geoff also took the Civic into the Kyneton Daffodil Parade giving us some great exposure. Thanks Geoff. 2nd in class was Mark Franzo in the Hyundai Accent. Mark coming out victorious over John Matthews.  Once these boys stopped spinning it out they were getting some great times.  Mark can you please bring back all the dirt you got off the Hyundai when cleaning it for Bryant Park it would fill in a few pot holes I believe (ha,ha)

Class B - 5 entrants - 1st Ryan Claypole in the Mazda Astina.  Ryan also finishing 8th fastest times.  Well done! Got Barry again Ryan!! 2nd placing was Barry Crosbie in the Mazda Astina.  Barry also finished 10th fastest times  Thanks for having the truck available too Barry. Luckily it wasn't needed at all. 3rd Don Smith in his ever faithful Alfa Romeo. Don took some amazing photo's.  Thanks Don.  Don has also planted nearly 400 trees out at the Club with the help of his gorgeous grand daughters Bailey and Mykala.  Huge thanks to them all.  I planted a couple (ha,ha). 4th in was Michael Osborne in his little Peugot 205.  Michael getting some good times throughout the day. 5th was Jeremy Crosbie sharing the Astina with Barry and Ryan and James.  Great to see you back out there Jeremy.  Sorry I missed your backward spinouts on that scary hill TWICE!  My video camera went flat.  It was breathtaking stuff but all ended well.  Great to see you back and fearless.

Class C = 3 entrants - 1st Brendan Crosbie in his flying Nissan Skyline.  Some great driving Brendan and it was fantastic to see you back at the club.  Brendan finishing an amazing 5th Fastest for the day.  Great effort. 2nd Alan Bell in his amazing Falcon.  I love the sound of that car. Alan pulling rank over son Andrew on this occassion in the family challenge.  Well done Alan.  3rd Andrew Bell in his own Falcon and driving it very well.

Class D - 2 entrants - 1st Ian Burton in the Corolla was victorious over 2nd Mark Annowsky this year.  Some great driving witnessed throughout the day by this pair. They run a very close challenge against each other.

Class E - 2 entrants - 1st Alan Airey in the Renault Clio.  Alan finishing 9th fastest for the event.  2nd was Jesse Donohue who I caught on film coming down that scary hill backwards.....  Jesse doing a great job in the Celica he shared with Cassie.  Well done.

Class F - 6 entrants - 1st Jeff Haire in the VJ Charger and driving like he was on fire for the entire event. I do love this car of Jeff's.  Jeff finishing an amazing 4th Fastest times and very well driven.  Great to watch this combination. 2nd Gavin Pollock in his black Celica which looked pretty smick I must say.  Gavin finishing 7th fastest times for the event - well done. 3rd Marcus Houston loving the crazy red Leone.  Although I did see him head into the sand pan at one stage and after retrieving himself out of it made some great video as he headed back to the finish trying to make up some time. Way to go...4th Jim Hammond driving the Falcon.  Jim did some great times on the 2nd track in the dry.  The wet taking its toll early.  Well driven Jim. 5th Steven Bell in his Falcon.  Steven doing some good runs in his hot Falcon and ripping it up in the family challenge coming out victorious over dad Alan and brother Andrew. Well done.

6th Jeff Cleland in the Laser TX3.  Jeff looking to thoroughly enjoy the outing. I did get some video of the mighty Laser Jeff..  Looking good.

Class J - 5 entrants - 1st Brayden Hammond in the Falcon shared with dad Jim.  Way to go Brayden you handled this car so well.  It was a credit to your driving - Well done.  Also, Brayden has been experiencing some Autocross action and I believe finished 1st Junior Class and 6th Outright at a recent event from 62 competitors. Congratulations. 2nd Nathan Airey.  Nathan driving the Renault Clio very consistently throughout the day.  Well done. 3rd James Carlton  sharing a drive in the mighty Mazda Astina of Barry Crosbies.  James you are getting so much experience in so many cars with Barry.  Enjoy. 4th Gus Annowsky in the Corolla.  Gus sharing the Corolla with brother Max and driving very well.  Gus you are improving with every outing - keep it up.  5th Max Annowsky having his first ever drive at an event was fantastic.  Max has been doing Junior Development over the last few months as he wasn't 14years old and couldn't compete.  Well for his debut he took to Bryant Park and what a job he did.  Go Max.  You will certainly be one to watch in the future.  Congratulations.

Class L- 3 entrants - 1st Debbie Pollock in the amazing black Celica shared with Gavin.  Once Deb stopped getting dizzie on her wrong direction there was no stopping her.  Well driven Deb. Thanks for the photo's to. 2nd Steph Maltby in the crazy red Leone shared with Marcus.  Steph trying to make a new track turn on the Clockwise Figure 8 TWICE finally got a handle on it and away she went.  Steph relished on the dry. 3rd Cassandra Cropley - Cassie drove consistent for the entire day. Wet or dry.  Well done Cassie.  Jesse just got you at this event by the narrowest of margins.

Class W - 4 entrants - 1st Rick Williams and coming out KING OF THE HILLCLIMB . 1st in class and 1st Overall. Rick loving the purrrr of the WRX and 4WD driving like the champ he is. Did himself proud.  Way to go Rick. 2nd John Rodier, Ricks partner in crime sharing the experience of 4WD in the WRX came in 2nd in class and 2nd Overall for the day.  Well done John.  3rd Andy Every sharing the mean beast of Rick and John and enjoying the ride. Andy finishing 3rd in Class and 3rd Overall.  Rick, John and Andy had to extinguish a fire prior to the event starting.  Without any damage to the internals.  No damage happened to the panels of the REX at the event (ha,ha)  What a machine, what a beast.  You couldn't take the smiles off their faces.  Boys and their toys.  Rick and John and now converted. 4th in class was Michael Cleland and his Turbo Laser TX3.  Michael letting off some smoke at times with the Turbo changes on the Laser.  I did get some good vision on video Michael so stay tuned. Michael finished 6th fastest for the event. Well Done.

Summing Up:

The first 4 runs were pretty much in the wet with the final run of the Figure 8 drying out for some.  The clockwise track was mostly run in dry conditions.  No incidents for the day other than some specky spins on the hill coming into the figure 8 by Jeremy Crosbie in the Astina and Jesse Donohue in the Celica.  I didn't see anything further than the bend coming off the figure 8 so no doubt missed some action of some members returning to the finsish line.  I could hear lots of tyre squeal.  All in all a great day.  Sadly, Lyndsay didn't receive the times until Thursday 3/10/13 so there has been a hold up getting them out to everyone.  All fixed now and they are out.

I am putting everyones video that I took of them on to individual disc's.  If you shared a car you are all on the one disc.  I hope to have them all available by the next event.  A hightlight video will also be done for this event.  Free of charge. If you want a copy.  I just have to get it done.

That's it from me - Till the next event.

Cheers

Sue
